Recently you may have heard discussion on LD 1713 - An Act To Return Funds to Maine Property Tax Payers. The State is in the process of sending refund checks to certain Maine property tax payers. This Act is a program that requires the Maine Office of the State Treasurer to provide relief payments of no less than $100 to qualifying property tax payers who hold a homestead exemption on their real estate property once the Property Tax Relief Fund reaches a threshold of funding to support the payments. In November of 2019, the State contacted each municipality to obtain a full list of property tax payers who held a homestead exemption as of April 1st, 2019. The State has a schedule on which they will process and sending checks to each property owner. Currently, Bristol is scheduled in payment batch #2, to be processed on 01/08/2020. Checks will be in the amount of $104.

If you did not receive a check and anticipated you would, please first review your tax bill from 2019 to verify you received the homestead exemption. If you show the exemption on your bill and did not receive a check, please contact the Assessing Office at 207-563-5270 and ask to speak with Jessica Westhaver.
